AnnotationIn this study, the Head of Communications at Guildford Borough Council aims to determine whether local government communications are rising to the challenge of the growing ageing population, and whether it is taking the highly influential over 50s group seriously. The study considers the extent to which local government is helping to engage with the wide variety of people aged 50+ about access to and availability of services. It also considers whether local government is encouraging the active participation of older people in contributing to community life. Through a combination of secondary research provided by older people's pressure groups, government bodies and from the MORI People's Panel and new research with local government communications experts and service staff, the study investigates how well local government communications is doing to reach the over 50s. It also explores the role of local government communications in breaking down traditional and discriminatory stereotyping about ageing. (RH).
