Annotation | The Mental Capacity Act 2005 sets up a new service, the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA), who will help people with no family or friends, also when important decisions are made involving health services and local authorities. These include decisions about serious medical treatment or moving to a hospital or care home. The IMCA may become involved in other types of decision as well. This booklet asks questions about how the IMCA should be run, its funding, standards, the training and skills required, and making sure it is being run properly. It also covers the meaning of serious medical treatment. The consultation runs until 30 September 2005. (RH) |
