AnnotationDying is so often a taboo topic in life, so what sort of experience can an older person dying in Britain in the early 21st century expect? Seven older people, including retired academics and individuals active in campaigning for older people's rights, offer insights on some of the concerns, experiences and reflections that older people have in relation to death and dying. Jean Buzan, George Fullwood, Dorothy Runnicles, Joan Rowley, Nan Maitland, Shu Pao Lim, and Margaret Simey offer a starting point to stimulate further debate on services and support to meet their needs at the end of life. Part II presents an overview of research evidence, based on the report by Jane Seymour and colleagues at the University of Sheffield, "End-of-life care: promoting comfort, choice and well-being for older people" (published by the Policy Press in association with Help the Aged), and which this report complements.
