| Annotation | First detailed results of a European survey of health, ageing and retirement in Europe presented in Brussels in April 2005. The Research Framework Programme of the European Union (EU) has funded the SHARE research project for 3 years, under the project name of AMANDA (Advanced Multidisciplinary Analysis of New Data on Aging). The Mannheim Institute is co-ordinating the work of the Survey. The project collects data on life circumstances of around 22,000 European citizens aged 50 and over in 11 countries, ranging from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean. Contributions to this first result are from researchers representing all 11 countries (Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Italy, Spain and Greece). The Survey provides an introductory overview on Europe's ageing population, followed by chapters on Health and health care; Social and family context; Work and retirement; Socio-economic status; and Methodology. Each chapter includes statistical tables and graphs. A short summary with key findings on health, employment, family and social networks and economic status is also available from the website (http://www.share-project.org), which also has more details about SHARE.
