Annotation | Memorial services are critical to the grieving process upon the death of a loved one. Written from the Jodo shinshu tradition founded by Shinram (1173-1262) perspective, this article offers insights into Buddhist memorial observances. For the Japanese American Buddhist community in Hawaii and in North America, these services ritualize the sentiments of reverence, appreciation and respect for elders. (KJ/RH). |
