| Annotation | Eastleigh Southern Parishes Older People's Forum (ESPOPF) in Hampshire surveyed the hospital travel needs of older people in Hamble, one of six parishes in ESPOPF's catchment area. The survey points to a number of difficulties relating to getting to and from hospital: rigid appointment systems; a lack of comprehensive information for patients about travel options such as the hospital car service; no direct routes by public transport; and options such as taxis being too expensive. Because these difficulties can lead to cancelled or missed appointments, the report makes recommendations to the Board of Southampton University Hospitals' Trust on improvements and alternative solutions, such as outreach clinics that will reduce numbers of journeys to hospital. The report presents detailed results, and includes a copy of the questionnaire and some verbatim interviews with users and service providers. (RH). |
