AnnotationWhen screening for dementia using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), locally derived norms yield better accuracy than published norms or the traditional <24 cut-point. In an Irish community setting, the local screening results were obtained with a <23 cut-point. These results are based on a study of 1,115 people aged 60+ (mean age 74.8, and 68% female) who were assessed in their own homes using MMSE and the AGECAT diagnostic system for mental illness. (RH).
