Annotation | The Housing Learning & Improvement Network (Housing LIN) aims to enhance learning and support across health, social services and housing. People with a broad range of expertise across the sector present their ideas and experiences. Georgina and John Truscott, of Esk Moors Action for the Elderly, describe a project designed to help older people to remain within their community on the North York Moors. Ian Donald, in "Are we ageing older, or just for longer?" outlines some of the problems that beset us in old age, and on which major statistical sources such as the Census and the General Household Survey (GHS) do not ask detailed health questions. Nigel Appleton, of Contact Consulting, in "Concept before construction", contends that preparation and attention to detail is of the utmost importance in planning and building extracare housing. Its purpose should be the enrichment of older people's lives through provision of an appropriate context for a chosen lifestyle. Moyra Riseborough's "Beyond welfare: who pays for the baby boomers?" considers possible impacts on our financial security and options for old age. Alan Kell and Peter Colebrook, of i&i limited, suggest that it is time to bring the "caring home" - that covers our safety, security, care and well-being - into mainstream housing. (RH). |
