Annotation | Nationally, there is great disparity in the provision of psychiatric day hospital care for older people with complex functional or organic mental health problems. This is due to either a wide variation in the resources available to provide such a service, or the role and function of such services. The authors discuss how they re-organised and redeveloped a psychiatric day facility to deal with some challenges posed by Standard Seven of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF), mental health for older people. There is increasing evidence to support the use of psycho-social interventions (PSI) in the management of people with dementia, and positive feedback was received from people with dementia and their carers who attended following the intervention.
