Annotation | Following its research programme on "Transitions after Fifty", the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) has produced a framework to aid discussion of how changes in policy and practice can contribute to sustaining working lives. This is one of five discussion papers available from the Foundation's website. It gives an overall view of the framework, and identifies three areas for making working lives more sustainable, the first being personal and career development, guidance and learning. The other two concern the characteristics of work: time, flexibility and work-life balance; and control, job quality and health. The dominant conclusion of workshops at JRF discussing the framework was a need for a change of culture by employers, the workers themselves and government. (KJ/RH). |
