Annotation | The author of "Living with dementia" considers developments since its publication in 1984. The "elderly mentally infirm" in the subtitle, "community care of the elderly mentally infirm", are now a 'residual category'. One development is the reframing of senility, such that Alzheimer's disease (AD) now dominates discourse on dementia; another has been the growth of memory clinics. Another theme is the individualisation of dementia, and the development by Tom Kitwood of dementia care mapping (DCM). (RH). |
