Annotation | Chris Gilleard's "Living with dementia" (1984) is very much situated in psychologists' and psychiatrists' professional and scientific discourse. The author of this article considers three themes in "Living with dementia": the absence of the lay perspective; the social construction of knowledge by professionals about dementia and the way in which this creates the object of its own action; and the significance of self to people caring for people with dementia.
