Annotation | "Living with dementia" (1984) relocated dementia care from the institution to the community. Its author, Chris Gilleard, saw family carers as having a significant role in the provision of dementia care. Trevor Adams considers alternative approaches: Tom Kitwood's person-centred care, and Mike Nolan et al's relationship-centred care. He suggests that neither approach is without problems, but that Gilleard's work continues to underpin thinking, in supporting the development of inclusive approaches towards dementia care. (RH). |
