AnnotationThe search strategy for this review used the keywords psychological therapy, counselling or psychological intervention in the title or abstract, alongside the keyword dementia. The Web of Science, PsychInfo and OVID were searched for articles from 1981 to 2004, also for items that had quoted previous important articles in the field. This review covers any type of dementia and the provision of any style of individual psychological therapy. Discussion covers: directive therapies; therapies that aim to reinforce personhood; and adaptations to therapies for people with dementia is still in the early stages of development, so that attention is drawn to the limitations of the research.
