Annotation | The report by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) following its investigation into the care of older people with mental illnesses (including dementia) on Rowan Ward at Withington Hospital, Manchester, made for disturbing reading. But until recently, the building where the abuse documented in the report took place had a proud history, which this article describes. The author was a consultant psychiatrist (old age psychiatry) at the hospital from 1975 until 1995. (RH). |
