Annotation | The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has co-ordinated and seeks views on this Government strategy on how the future needs of people aged 50+ can be be met. This summary outlines the content of the main report (Cm 6466-i) on three priority area proposals. The first is increasing the post-50 employment rate and the average retirement age, and offering support for older people to improve their work skills; the proposed age discrimination legislation is also mentioned. The second relates to active ageing, covering issues such as transport, learning, leisure, housing, personal safety, and influencing local decisions. The third concerns services that promote well-being and independence. The summary outlines how central government intends to deliver this strategy and improve interactions with local authorities. An Observatory on Ageing for sharing knowledge about ageing issues is also proposed. (RH). |
