Averil Osborn was an effective activist and campaigner for the welfare of older people and for many years, an Assistant Director of Age Concern Scotland. Averil Osborn died in 1995 and a memorial Fund was established by The British Society of Gerontology (BSG). Aims of the Fund are "to encourage and support research and development projects that will improve the quality of life and citizenship of older people and, of equal importance, to promote the involvement of them in the design and practice of sound research" (as reported in Generations Review, vol 9, no 3, 1999).
