Annotation | Less than a quarter of the population aged 90+ and fewer than one in five of those living in MHA Care Homes are men. MHA commissioned this small pilot study on the spiritual needs of older men, based on five interviews and 19 completed postal surveys. Subjects were asked what particular elements help or hinder their spiritual expression. Four strong themes emerged as important, if not critical factors in the men's spiritual well-being: friendship, conversion, God, and church. The study offers recommendations for staff and chaplains on how spiritual needs can be met in residents' care plans. (RH). |
