Annotation | The National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People (NAPA) was set up in 1997 to: set standards of appropriate practice; disseminate knowledge of good practice; and support those individuals who provide activities for older people, whether in home or care settings. This book points to the connections between good practice and research evidence. It offers a practice model for activity providers that incorporates NAPA's philosophy. Other chapters cover: the historical context; the changing activity culture; the individual goal plan; resources; education and staff development; and specialist help such as occupational therapy. At the outset, it notes Standard 12 of "Care homes for older people: national minimum standards", which states that the "routines of daily living and activities made available are flexible and varied to suit services users' expectations. preferences and capacities". It draws attention to Standard 2 of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF), person-centred care; also Standard 7, mental health, and Standard 8, the promotion of health and active life in old age.
