AnnotationMOOTS (Moving out of the shadows) is the umbrella term for joint work on promoting and influencing better mental health for older people. This report is based on the "launch" of MOOTS at an event in Leeds on 1 May 2003, organised by the Older People's Programme (formerly at King's College London, now at Help and Care), Better Government for Older People (BGOP) partnership and its UK Older People's Advisory Group (OPAG), and Help the Aged. The report covers the event's focus of learning from older people's experiences of mental health problems and services, as well as from those who work with, care or support them, or are involved in service provision, decision-making and policy. The report also sets out priorities and action for policy and practice, and an agenda for action, a MOOTS Learning Network. An appendix, an Older People's Programme briefing paper on mental health services for older people, includes consideration of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) Standard 7, mental health in older people. (RH).
