Annotation | This paper is based on the book "Elderly women in Europe - choices and challenges" (1996) which describes the social and economic position of older women in Denmark, Italy, Britain, Spain Belgium and the Netherlands, focusing on housing, income, social contact, family structure, family care, leisure and health. This paper highlights four of the issues which the studies establish as common to the majority of older women across Europe.
