AnnotationConference opened by Chairman of 55+ Positive Lifestyle, Paddy Pollock, who explained the origins of the organisation with its interest in employment affecting older people in the District of Teignbridge. Research had been commissioned to provide information for future action. This research was carried out by Professor Robert Leaper and colleagues and he went on to outline the work involved. Questions and open discussion followed. A Plan of Action was then outlined which focuses on the national PRIME project, which is based on the Prince's Youth Business Trust. The capital for the project had been provided by Age Concern, Help the Aged, Business in the Community and the Prince's Trust with matched funding from the Department of Employment. The PRIME project will give support to those looking for self-employment, complementing the Government's New Deal scheme for those over 50 years seeking employment. (KJ).
