Annotation | "Innovations profiles the work of creative organisations that engage older Americans in new and compelling ways to revitalize their communities." This volume is part of a series, a documentary project, published by Civic Ventures. Illustrated with photographs by Alex Harris throughout the volume. This particular volume relates the work, in narrative form, of vehicle (RV) travelling older retired people to help Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country to build affordable homes for families in need. The "Care-A-Vanners" was established in 1989 as part of the Habitat programme and there are about 800 active members who typically volunteer at a building site for two weeks at a time. The programme is part of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit ecumenical Christian organisation dedicated to building affordable housing. (KJ). |
