Annotation | Experienced and older staff are leaving the NHS early in ever-increasing numbers. This report examines: the numbers of older staff leaving the NHS early; the reasons why they are leaving; what can be learned from other sectors regarding the recruitment and retention of older people; current Government policy; and how investment in human resources can support new Government initiatives. The study used a qualitative methodology, based on focus groups with NHS staff aged 45+, and semi-structured interviews with managers from other sectors and with major NHS stakeholders. Among recommendations made are: flexible working; occupational health support; and wider access to training. (RH). |
