AnnotationThe "Looking Back, Looking Forward" project is based on face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 62 lesbian women aged 55+ (the eldest born in 1902) living in Washington, Oregon amd California. Their life experiences and the choices they made are considered within the context of changing perceptions of homosexuality through the 20th century. Seven chapters cover the themes of coming out, identity, family, work, ageing (and hopes for the future), adversity, and resilience. Appendices include demographic information about the women in the sample, and an historical time line from 1894 to the present charting events that have influenced changes in attitudes towards homosexuality.
