Annotation | Social inequalities among black and minority ethnic (BME) older people have largely been overlooked in public policy. This position paper puts the case for recognising the needs of this population. Despite a number of policy initiatives aimed at tackling racial discrimination and social exclusion, evidence is provided of discrimination of BME elders across health, community and social services, income and housing. Age Concern England (ACE) suggests that the Cabinet Sub Committee on Older People should take a lead on ensuring that government departments consider BME elders' needs. (RH). |
