AnnotationThe Foundation launched its European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) in 2003. These first results attempt to explore quality of life issues in 28 countries - the 25 European Union member states (EU25) and three candidate countries, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Countries are compared on a wide range of themes: the economic situation; housing and the local environment; employment, education and skills; household structure and family relations; work-life balance; and health and health care. The survey looks at the views of European citizens on their subjective well-being and perceived quality of life. A conclusion summarises the survey results and relates them to recent policy debate development. An annex includes the EQLS questionnaire. Data and annotations were prepared by the Social Science Research Centre in Berlin (WZB). A résumé of the first results is also available from the website given. (RH).
