Annotation | This is the fourth issue of the BMJ dedicated to this topic and given recent Government initiatives, it was timely to focus on the problem of managing long term chronic conditions. However, this issue provides an international look at this problem which now is the main cause of death and disability worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), non-communicable conditions account for 46% of the global burden of disease, that is 59% of the annual 57 million deaths. The articles in this issue look more closely at what comprises high quality care and the challenges that lie ahead for all health professionals to manage and learn from their patients. (KJ/RH). |
