Annotation | The government has aimed to get 90% of its services online by 2005, spending more than £12 billion on information technology (IT) in 2004 alone. Older people are the main users of government services, but only about 16% of over 65s have used the internet at home. This policy statement outlines the benefits and barriers of IT for older people. It notes that if the digital divide is to be removed, older people's interest and confidence must be raised, and government and industry will need to ensure that infrastructure is available to them.
