AnnotationHome Improvement Agencies (HIAs) play an important role in promoting independence for vulnerable people, particularly those living in private sector housing. This guide draws on the experience of six HIAs involved in a good practice research project jointly undertaken by Foundations and the the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York, the latter commissioned by the Thomas Pocklington Trust. The aim was to investigate key issues that would lead to improved HIA services for visually impaired people. Coverage includes: raising awareness of visual impairment; carrying out assessments that meet users' needs; technical assistance and adaptation guidance; working with contractors; and ensuring client satisfaction.
