Annotation | The 2000 Population and Housing Census of Ghana yielded a population of 18.9 million, an increase of 53.8% on the 1984 population of 12.3 million. While Ghana continues to have a youthful population, the ratio of older people to children has increased from 8.5% in 1984 to 12.8% in 2000. This article considers the societal implications of ageing on the family, care and services for older people, as well as the economic implications. (RH). |
