Annotation | 40% of adults in the UK are aged over 50, and they will number 22 million by 2020. Given that three-fifths of the 1.3 million social care workforce in the UK are aged 25-49 and one-fifth are over 50, does social care workforce planning take these statistics into account? This article notes the benefits of an older workforce. However, while many people aged between 50 and the State Pension Age (SPA) are without work (31%), many have also opted for early retirement and there are difficulties in finding and appointing replacement staff.
