Annotation | As part of Care and Health Magazine's contribution to the debate on the future of adult social care, Lewisham's Director of Social Services gives his views on Direct Payments. Rather than being conceptualised as an alternative model of social care, the author suggests that Direct Payments should be seen as a way of enabling users to have access to a service which is readily available: a "customer revolution" is required.
