Annotation | Community-based early intervention and prevention programmes aim to tackle future social problems. The development of such programmes has become an important part of the government's approach to community capacity building. These findings report on an evaluation of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's (JRF) Communities that Care (CtC) programme, by Iain Crow and colleagues at the University of Sheffield. The evaluation shows how one such approach can be implemented in deprived communities, what impacts it is having after five years of implementation, and how these can be measured. The full report, "Does Communities that Care work? an evaluation of a community-based risk prevention programme in three neighbourhoods", is published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and is available from York Publishing Services.
