Annotation | Funded through the EU Director General's Research Fifth Framework Programme, the CARMEN (Care and Management of Services for Older People in Europe Network) project has sought to improve the management of integrated care services for older people. The project explored a range of avenues towards good quality, accessible and sustainable client-centred services. It has also helped the exchange of expertise and good practice. CARMEN was managed and coordinated by the European Health Management Association (EHMA), with 40 European organisations from 11 European countries participating between March 2001 and June 2004. This article details some of CARMEN's focus and recommendations for EU policy. Most of these are focused on tackling the challenges with regard to health and social care, and this includes long-term care of older people and pensions. CARMEN has been supported by the EU's Quality of Life and Management of Human Resources Programme which is part of the Fifth Framework Programme. The CARMEN project has finished, but through EHMA, the thematic network, key stakeholders will continue to collaborate and exchange good practice. (KJ/RH). |
