AnnotationPatients' cultural and religious needs can become particularly important during ill health. This article describes two different frameworks, and how they can be used by nurses to assess the needs of older people in their care. The first relates to cultural and religious influences on activities of living (the Roper-Logan-Tierney model of nursing). The second is Giger and Davidhizar's transcultural assessment model, and concerns the delivery of culturally sensitive care that is influenced by aspects of six cultural phenomena: communication (e.g. language spoken), space, social organisation, time, environmental centred, and biological variations.
