Annotation | This brief article considers current trends and patterns - as revealed by the 2001 Canadian census - about three-generational households. It reveals that 930,000 Canadian households (approximately one in 20 families in British Columbia) live in this type of family structure. Despite this rise in numbers of multi-generational households, Canadian research is sparse; and as the majority of these households include a dependent older adult, attention needs to be focused on the challenges that face such families. However, the article discusses some past studies and the implications that these could have for Canadian social policy and community programmes. (KJ/RH). |
