Annotation | There are inconsistent reports as to whether people with anxiety disorders have a higher mortality risk. Data were used from the Longitudinal Ageing Study Amsterdam (LASA), a large community based sample of of 3,107 older men and women (aged 55-85) followed up for 7.5 years. Anxiety disorders were assessed according to DSM-III criteria in a two-stage screening design. The study revealed an association between anxiety and mortality for men, whereas for women there was no significant association. (RH). |
