"The invisible man?" older men in modern society | Author(s) | Graham Fennell, Kate Davidson |
Journal title | Ageing International, vol 28, no 4, Fall 2003 |
Pages | pp 315-325 |
Keywords | Older men. |
Annotation | There has been much interest and advances have been made in our understanding of older women in the past two decades. In contrast, social scientific research on older men has been less prominent, but the medical profession is now more interested in men's health. The authors preview other articles in this issue of Ageing International. Contributors from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and the UK examine aspects of continuity and change in the notions of masculinity for older men in a variety of contexts. These include exit from the labour force, retirement, social exclusion, involvement in community, spouse care, and widowhood. (RH). |
