Annotation | All too often, there has been an unequal partnership between older people and professionals in shaping agendas. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) Older People's Research Programme (2000-2004) was developed with and by older people themselves working with researchers and policy makers. In this report, the Older People's Steering Group reviews its programme of research on older people's experiences, service responses, and the need to involve older people. The report draws together the findings of 18 research projects covering a wide range of subjects: information, advice and advocacy; definitions of quality; the needs of black and minority ethnic older people; unmet need; issues relating to involving older people; older people's views on intermediate care; the importance of money; and defining comfortable, healthy ageing and a "life worth living". The report presents these key themes, the tensions and opportunities arising from the projects, and messages for others in adopting a citizenship model based on older people's needs. (RH). |
