AnnotationLeisure roles are increasingly recognised as important for older people's well-being. While caregiving is known to limit participation in a variety of roles, litle is known about the impact of caregiving on leisure activities, and existing measures are of limited usefulness in caregiving research. The authors developed the Leisure Time Satisfaction (LTS) measure to allow further study of the impact of caregiving on caregivers' leisure time satisfaction, the role of leisure in understanding the caregiving process, and whether caregiving interventions improve leisure time satisfaction. The 6-item LTS measure shows excellent psychometric properties, including internal consistency, a single factor structure, and convergent validity. Psychometric factors are robust across diverse groups of caregivers, including sub-groups varying by race or ethnicity and relationship to the care recipient. The LTS appears to be a promising measure for inclusion in caregiving research, and is being included in the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health (REACH) project assessments. (RH).
