Annotation | This review provides two definitions of assistive technology, and gives an overview of the applications of assistive technology for people with dementia linked to some of the recent research. It suggests examples of "smart home" technology: the BESTA project, and Gloucester Smart Homes, and the ENABLE Project. Examples for telecare include: the Falkirk Mobile Emergency Care Service (MECS); ASTRID (A Social and Technological Response to meeting the needs of Individuals with Dementia); and the Northampton Safe at Home Project. Ethical issues surrounding the use of assistive technology are examined. (RH). |
