Annotation | Margaret Thatcher's "home owning democracy" has allowed many older people to use the capital from their homes to fund their care. However, the relationship between private providers and the new generation of self-funders is raising awkward questions. This article considers the impact of greater home ownership on the ability of older people to directly commission services to meet their needs. Managing the financial impact of this will require the state to redefine its relationship with the citizen. (RH). |
