AnnotationHow can we counter negative images and perceptions, destructive myths and outmoded stereotypes about older people's ability to learn and to be involved in adult education? This is a handbook which presents evidence of older people's exclusion from education. The authors tackle some of the major assumptions and misconceptions regarding specific aspects of ageing - namely cognitive, physical, dispositional and attitudinal factors. Each assumption is dealt by presenting the most recent evidence refuting the assumption, or at least improving our knowledge of the issues. Implications for practice are outlined, and some examples of work in progress illustrate ways in which the findings can help older people in their learning. (RH).
