AnnotationThrough the experiences and voices of older people, this report provides a picture of what it is like to grow old in two localities. It draws on participatory research involving two established networks of older people aged between 60 and 97: Caring Together, one of 37 neighbourhood networks in an ethnically diverse inner city area of Leeds; and the Retired Resource Network in Hartlepool, which brings together retired people to provide mutual support and to campaign on relevant issues. A significant aspect of the study was the participation of older people as research partners, involved in all stages of the work: interviewing, analysing and shaping the writing. The report highlights factors that inhibit and promote healthy ageing; makes connections between older people's day-to-day lives and their social and physical environments; and contributes to our understanding of the services that are required in order to support their needs and enhance their conceptions of life quality.
