AnnotationThis research training network (RTN) is funded by the European Commission as part of its Fifth Framework Programme. It brings together teams in a number of European Community (EC) member or associated states, in this particular case from England, France, Norway, Finland, Spain and Greece. This article explains the Network's five major aims: to collate knowledge where available across EU states regarding the status of grandparents and their family relationships; to collate information on legal issues and policies across European countries as they affect grandparents' rights and responsibilities; to examine the implications of grandparents caring for young grandchildren; to examine the impact on inter-generational relationships of families or societies in transition; and to examine images of grandparents and attitudes to ageing in the media and the general population.
