AnnotationParticipants were 222 consecutively identified breast cancer patients aged 55+ in Los Angeles County, California, who were within 6 months of breast cancer diagnosis and/or 1 month post-treatment. The interaction between patient and doctor was examined with regard to those aspects of communication that affect breast cancer knowledge, treatment delay and surgical treatment received. In multiple logistic regression models, informational support positively predicted patient breast cancer knowledge, negatively predicted treatment delays, and positively predicted receipt of breast conserving surgery (BCS). Age and ethnicity were not significant predictors in these models. (RH).
