AnnotationThe authors outline their study assessing the perceived health of a sample of 50 retired and 50 non-retired people aged 50-70 living at home in northern Portugal. A version of the Self-Reported Health Questionnaire and a health and physical well-being questionnaire adapted from the European Survey on Ageing Protocol (ESAP) were used. The aim was to determine the influence of "going into retirement" on their perceived health. Results are presented for the various aspects covered: physical health; physical and mental activity; physical condition; sleep; hearing; eyesight; tobacco consumption; and alcohol consumption. (RH).
