AnnotationHeads of government at the Lisbon summit in 2002 set the target that by 2010 the employment rate should rise from 64% to at least 70% across the European Union (EU), and for older workers aged 55-64, the employment rate should rise from 38% to at least 50%. The authors examine the British, Danish aNd Dutch experiences of employment: how unemployed people are treated; employment and wage flexibility; and issues concerning older workers. The report makes recommendations to EU heads of government on issues including early retirement and the treatment of older workers. (RH).
