Annotation | The author, a Senior Sister at Eastbourne Hospital, explains how the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust has taken positive steps to reduce the numbers of older tourists whose holidays are spoiled by hospital admission. She found that the main reasons for admissions were: not taking medication as prescribed; not eating usual food and other diet-related problems; exercising more strenuously than usual; and accidental injuries. An advice leaflet has since been compiled to help people prepare for their holidays, which was initially circulated to local hotels and travel companies, and has since been posted on websites.
